    Air Source Heat Pumps

An air-source heat pump takes warmth from air from outside the home and converts it into heat, giving you hot water and central heating.

They’re a good option for smaller homes and apartments, and homes without the outside space to dig a trench for a ground source heat pump. These pumps work in a similar way to a refrigerator.

How does an air source heat pump work?

Take air from outside and pass it over the same type of liquid used in a fridge. The liquid has a very low boiling point and there is always enough warmth in the air to make this work.

The air turns the liquid into a vapour which is passed through a compressor, condensed, and put into the heating system through a heat exchanger.

When the liquid loses heat, it can begin the process again and draw in more air from outside, giving you constant heat. These pumps also work in low temperatures.
